Tuition reimbursement program is excellent, only a few prerequisites. State Farm reimburses all costs for tuition, fees, and books. Short workweek (38.75 hours) is also a plus, but that can be offset by on-call times or late meetings that extend workdays.

Svantaggi

Promotions are by who you know instead of by abilities or accomplishments. One mistake or poor choice of words can cost you for many, many years. Pay scales are lower than competition's pay scales. Management tends to abuse on-call time and will not go after people that are not as available as they should be. The people that actually answer the phone/pager/cell phone tend to get called more often, leading to burnout. Executives and management also tend to think that externals/contractors are the answer to every question. Staffing is also an issue, lately people that leave (which are usually the best and brightest the company has) are not replaced. Brain drain is a major issue at State Farm.

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
