Vantaggi

The rates they offer are higher, but hours are inconsistent. Retirement plan - if you can get the hours to qualify. They offer a salary positions only to a few and do not disclose this to everyone.

Svantaggi

The clinical director often steps in and disregards BCBA plan of care recommendations, especially with families they know. Materials and reinforcement are hardly approved or provided when requested. They will expect clients to have the same reinforcement for months. BCBAs and technicians often spend their own money to make the session fun and engaging for their clients. The administration does not have difficult conversations with parents when environments are not suitable for ABA services or when they have failed to hire the proper staff. Oftentimes, the RBT will have to take responsibility/blame for their lack of communication. Despite advertising that they only hire qualified and trained RBTs, SS hires behavior technicians and does not make the distinction to parents. When BTs are hired, they do not receive proper training, especially for school purposes. RBTs are often changed off cases without a transition plan in place or when there is one given by the BCBAs, they disregard them. While they say they can provide services in school, RBTs are told to omit any reference to school or teachers in their session notes. There are dual relationships within admin that impact the level of care and scheduling of clients. These dual relationships lead to families not following policies and procedures while others must. Some parents have reported that their kids will not receive priority due to their “level” of Autism. Policies and holidays are often changed without informing staff. In the policy book, the Easter Holiday was given as PTO, but when the holiday came, it was not reflected in the paycheck. When the administration was informed, they removed it from the employee handbook. Only when screenshots of the unaltered handbook were shown, did they follow their word. To make it worse, when they sent another reminder about completing session notes, they added the handbook with the “old” holiday list that included Easter. They do threaten to withhold pay if the session is not submitted by the end of the day saying that it is an insurance requirement. When several insurance providers were contacted, they said it had to be done within the month or the week. When clients are sick or contagious, sessions are not canceled. When schools have outbreaks and staff is exposed, families that share RBTs are not informed. When HR was informed, the response to a technician was “If you have the means” to get PPE, “you can do that.” During Hurricane Berly, after schools had closed and the news warned of the severity, SS still encouraged sessions to occur instead of canceling for the day. This led to services being provided without electricity in homes and other RBTs going in because they would not get paid otherwise - risking their safety and vehicles. After several complaints from RBTs, the admin said: “As per our company's inclement weather policy, Steady Strides ABA is not obligated to pay for missed sessions that are not directly caused by the closure of our clinic facility. However, we recognize the challenges this situation has posed across the board and value each of our therapists deeply. Therefore, we have decided to compensate for the missed sessions scheduled for Monday, July 8, at any location.”
