Vantaggi

If you're just starting off in IT, you will learn a lot. Essentially you'll be hitting the ground running and while you can reach out to fellow coworkers / senior technicians for help, you will be expected to work your way through issues as best as possible. This is both good and bad, depending on how one learns. Once you have been in the "trenches" for awhile, you'll find your fellow technicians in the same boat as you and generally have each others' backs. This included all *technical* staff, i.e. NOC, onsite, and senior technicians. You will most likely become a (social) drinker due to bonding, for multiple reasons. Beside your fellow technicians, just like any service oriented job, clients can make or break it. You will, despite the odds, find a few clients that you'll love and will want to do right for... despite what the company as a whole may do instead. While it was great to have a few clients I actually loved, having like minded technicians I could work with and learn a thing or two from was really what kept me going at times. Because yes, you learn A LOT in a short amount of time, but given the situations you have to do so, if you didn't have others also sharing the same fate, I doubt anyone could last at this company.

Svantaggi

There was very limited structure, both at the technical and managerial levels, during my time there. Technicians fended for themselves and had very little say about how decisions, projects, equipment, etc may be done for a client. We were basically told to do "x" in "y" time without exception... even if we didn't know how "x" worked or was planned out as no hand off was ever given in what the client and management discussed (i.e. Exchange deployment on a new VM host that needs specific configuration / VLANs). (Upper) Management was horrible, period. End of the day, CEO had the final say and we were expected to do what was told. Even if it was literally, I mean literally, impossible to do. Deploy new servers with questionable specs or a new application with zero documentation or vendor assistance in several hours when it's really a several day project, sure. Deploy 20+ workstations in one day with only one person, no problem. Unreal expectations set by sales and even approved by upper management made day to day hell on earth. Benefits? Salary? All a joke or very under the average. This may have changed since my time at the company but salaries and bonuses were something to laugh at. And this would be for any one at any level (except highest management); you could bust your b**t off working 80 billable hrs a week, weekends, and bending backwards for the clients to make management/sales happy but zero appreciation or dues at all. Like not even a "thank you" from management. Technical staff, which is essentially the company's bread and butter and what you're "selling" to clients were treated like cogs in a machine and worked to the bone. It was just *expected* you do what work you were given, no complaints allowed. Put in extra hours (and I'm talking about 10+ hrs) for a client unexpectedly? Well, that's just obvious. On-call (which was really just after hours, and not "emergency calls only" as we were told) was just plain stressful as if you didn't get back to a client ASAP, you just get yelled at (and this is like <30 mins after a call comes in). Drive to multiple clients in totally different directions (i.e. 60+ mins apart) to work 2+ hrs issues at each, all to be done in 1 day made zero sense. There was just no appreciation about the work you do FOR the company that gave you a reason to work for them, beside a paycheck. End of the day, constantly long hours, unrealistic goals set by management to clients, internal policies that can change at a whim, and management that do not treat staff as actual people is only do-able for so long.

We're sorry you feel the need to continue to write negative reviews about Strategic - as once again, this duplicate review is from the same person who writes all the negatives reviews on this page - but it's important to note that your review does not accurately reflect Strategic as it stands today, as your employment with us ended many years ago. We're also sorry that you weren't able to keep pace with the rapidly changing technology that's part of the IT industry. One of the huge benefits of working for Strategic is the ability to get your hands on the latest tech - that comes with the responsibility of always improving your technical skills, including learning how to implement and utilize it - and this is true for any profession - can you imagine a world where Doctor's never learned how to perform newer, less invasive surgeries using new technology? I can assure you that if you were asked to implement a VM server with Exchange, it's probably because we felt you understood the technology and could handle the project - as this is pretty simple for most of the technical folks here. All of our staff is always available to help, and we do our best to implement training sessions with our group technical meetings and morning huddles. We also always invite anyone who may feel they are not getting the help they need to raise their hand and ask for help. Perhaps as you continue your career you will ask for help more often if you find yourself struggling. We are happy you feel that Strategic was a great place to learn. It continues to be a hallmark of working at Strategic (and any IT service business for that matter), as the many clients our technicians support give them a broad perspective of multiple network configurations, applications, and hardware. In terms of our culture, as a market leader in the MSP field, we must always strive to be the very best we can be. That means bringing an "A" game to every client engagement. We also know, however, that mistakes and problems happen, technology fails, and that everyone, including our management team, are human. So while we can't expect perfection all the time, we do our very best to build an environment where talented and bright individuals can excel with little in their way, all the while fully supporting each other's efforts (as you cited regarding the exceptional teamwork that exists) and providing an industry leading compensation and benefits package unrivaled in the MSP world - including exceptional medical insurance, generous paid time off, dental coverage, gym membership, cell phone credit, 6 different annual bonuses, employee of the month programs, and company outings that including Dinners in NYC, Karting, Bowling, and more. On top of that, our in-office stress relievers include an arcade, ping pong table, and one of our staff's favorites, our massage therapist. We also take pride in acknowledging when a job is well done by an individual or team, from a company-wide outing to NYC for dinner, an e-mail to the staff outlining the exceptional work done, or just a simple thank you. There is no doubt we appreciate our employees beyond measure. Our documentation, project management, and deployment processes have been refined over the years to provide our clients with outstanding results and also provide real accountability, which helps to eliminate any inconsistencies in our service levels - service levels that as of May 2015 measured by our clients at 98.9% "highly satisfied". In addition, all companies, regardless of their size, must continue to revise policies and procedures, especially Strategic as a technology leader and given the rapid pace of technology changes. We are also happy you enjoyed the camaraderie you shared among your fellow employees. Teamwork is bred into our culture here at Strategic, as working together is key to any successful organization. Strategic is proud to be nationally recognized by many industry leading organizations, including Inc Magazine who has bestowed upon us the award for one of the Fastest Growing Companies in the US for 2 years in a row, as well as Microsoft, for whom we've been a Certified Partner for over 15 years. Regardless of your past with Strategic, we hope you are finding success in your career and again if your struggling, always remember to ask for help.
