Vantaggi
Friendly people to work with and work for. Honestly it's the only reason I'm still coming in to work for them.
Svantaggi
There's no commission so you still get paid the same amount regardless of if you're selling a $15 pair of scissors or a $1,500 jura. to me that's ridiculous because employees are expected to go above and beyond to make sales and keep people buying our products. If there isn't incentive, we're just not going to put as much effort into it, period. Also the amount of work vs pay kitchen assistants required to do is pretty terrible. The kitchen assistants almost never get out of work on time because of the disorganization of it all. Some chefs won't follow the recipe and make extra work for the KA's or use 32 plates when 16 would suffice. I've honestly been looking at dishwasher jobs at other restaurants because I'm in the dish pit for 8 hours at Sur La Table making less than $10 an hour, when I could be making $14 an hour doing the same job at any restaurant and not put up with all that extra BS. Another point that I'd like to make is that they do not give their employees that need hours enough, and give their employees that have other jobs too many hours. We have a computer system called UltiPro that you're able to request days off and let the managers know when you can and can't work, and as far as I've seen it's almost always ignored. So far, every occasion that I've had to ask off for, I've needed to take the extra time and call all my other co-workers just so that I can have that day off because the people making the schedule didn't take the time to actually see when I was available to be scheduled. Sometimes I'm going in five or six days a week and still getting less than 25 hours and it's almost an hour drive to get to and from work. Definitely not worth it unless you live close by. Other times I'll get the same hours in 3 days and not have any hours the rest of the week.
