To say that these are unprecedented times is an understatement as people across the world are dealing with the impact of COVID-19. I am proud to be working for an organization that is helping medical professionals better serve patients and prevent further spread of the virus. I am also grateful to our leadership team for providing open and regular communication on how our organization is responding and resources that employees can take advantage of to support them and their loved ones during this time of need. We have really talented and passionate people here! We typically like to be together in person to work through issues, problem solve, generate new ideas, hang out over a cup of coffee or lunch, etc. It's been hard to not be able to do that over the last several weeks, but I've been really impressed with the creative ways that people have been connecting to not only keep moving forward with planned projects but also to have fun, be silly and make sure their teammates are actively included and engaged. We're still hiring for full-time employees across our different offices and functional groups, and also still holding our summer internship program. Both our hiring managers and interns were not swayed by the fact that some or all of the summer experience might be remote - they were just thrilled we were having it, and already started brainstorming ways to make it really impactful, no matter where we are! Everyone is doing their best to adapt and remotely on-board folks and ensure they feel part of Surescripts right away, but we are definitely looking forward to when we can welcome them in person to our beautifully renovated new office spaces! I have twenty plus years of work experience and have been with Surescripts for over three years, and I can truly say it is one of the best places I have ever worked. Our purpose is critical to the world of healthcare, and the people and my teammates are amazing!

It is a complex industry and sometimes hard to grasp all of the nuances. It is also a very fast moving work environment and can be challenging to keep up at times. There is a continuing need and focus on process improvements as we grow and incorporate new technology.

Leadership within the Technology and Security organization operates entirely on fear, micromanagement, and self-preservation. Transparently reporting organizational risks or highlighting operational gaps is treated as a personal threat by management rather than a professional duty. The leadership style relies on moving goalposts, extreme gatekeeping (like exhausting daily interrogation-style briefing traps), and intentionally vague performance feedback so success can never actually be achieved. Top-performing professionals are systematically targeted, isolated, and managed out through fabricated performance issues to protect executive reputations. Furthermore, the HR department is completely toothless. Detailed, explicit exit interviews outlining this exact abusive behavior and naming impacted employees are met with empty empathy but zero corrective action. HR routinely chooses to protect toxic executives over maintaining basic workplace ethics. Since the corporate takeover, the culture has entirely shifted from psychological safety to compliance through fear, causing widespread burnout, anxiety, and a mad dash for the exits by top talent.
