      First job since leaving uni, and my first “adult” job, it’s been amazing! The company has such a good culture and especially in my office it’s better than I ever imagined. My manager and coworkers have all been so patient with explaining my role and teaching me new skills. Honestly, I was dreading starting full time work after university, with having to work out the balance, and pressures that come with this new responsibility. But, it’s been the best time so far, and I can’t wait to see how I progress!

      As someone who started completely fresh in the industry, I found that it took a while to understand the purpose and goals for the company, this message needs to be clearer, especially since there are so many freshly graduated people joining the company!

Thank you for your feedback around the purpose and goals for the company – I’m always thinking about how we can continually improve our internal messaging as this guides everyone to pull in the same direction – more to follow at the Company Town Hall in a week or so’s time. In terms of your own goals, our annual objective setting process is underway and will help you. We’ll also look into ensuring our new starters are getting clearly defined objectives to help them through their early days with us and to keep those aligned with the Company bonus scheme which everyone participates in from joining.       I could write a lot on this, but the two biggest challenges within the company are: 1. Disorganized processes and slow decision making. Operations felt chaotic, more like the downside of a start-up than the upside. Decisions moved slowly, inefficiencies were everywhere and few people seemed empowered or accountable to fix them. The technology, infrastructure, and ways of working often felt outdated and unnecessarily manual. 2. A People team lacking credibility and capability. From leadership down, the People function appeared out of depth. Initiatives such as career frameworks and progression tools being introduced felt more like surface level exercises than meaningful strategies. Despite the talk of being “people focused,” the execution of any initiatives lacked clarity, consistency and genuine understanding of what employees actually need.

      Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m pleased our remote / hybrid working suited you, but I’m sorry that other aspects of your time did not meet your expectations. We recognise that some of our processes and tools have been too manual and slow. As we integrate our group of companies into one organisation, we’re investing in clearer processes, better systems and sharper ownership so decisions move faster. You’ve also raised concerns about our People team and career development. Our career frameworks are currently in the design and build phase to create greater transparency, with a communicated deadline of the end of our financial year. Alongside this, we’ve introduced Development Planning, Squiggly Careers training and toolkits, and a mentoring programme to support colleagues with their career development.
