Vantaggi
As a journeyman tool and die maker, I can honestly say that the best job I ever had was at AMP/Tyco Electronics. The company provided for all of my training (4 year apprenticeship) and post-secondary education. I took advantage of the tuition reimbursement benefit and earned a BA and MS degree. I received several promotions and always enjoyed the work and the people that I worked with. I left several years ago for other career opportunities but I still recall AMP/Tyco Electronics as the best place I ever worked.
Svantaggi
The only downside was the cyclical nature of the electronics industry. This resulted in swings in demand levels that caused lay-offs and/or furloughs every 18-to-24 months. However, by being in a skilled trade I never was laid-off although I did take an occasional week off without pay.
