My role was made redundant, and I was moved into a customer service position instead, which came with a pay cut. The work I used to do is now being handled by department managers. To me, it felt like a sham redundancy. The company has also done away with the remote team. Work-from-home is now only allowed if you’re close with management, or if the office is closed and you agree to work weekends. Silent layoffs are happening regularly. Team members keep disappearing — they’re being called into meetings framed as “gross misconduct,” when in reality it feels like the company is just finding ways to dismiss people. We were told not to talk about roles being cut so the rest of the office wouldn’t panic. I mentioned it to a remote colleague, and shortly after they were suddenly pulled into a redundancy conversation. It makes me wonder — if I hadn’t said anything, would they have even known about the layoffs, or that we’re now covering the responsibilities of people who’ve been let go?
