There are many good people in terms of customers and staff you can meet but all these are outweighed by the amount of shoplifters, drunks or drug addicts that are trying get you into trouble(made a lot easier by Tesco and TSS policies). Job used to be good but too many changes have been made.

Role is becoming more about wearing police like uniform and constant report writing about incidents. Have to accept lots of verbal abuse and not permitted to respond back. Have to let people steal and only thing your allowed to do if they refuse to give the goods back, is let them walk out and write a report. HOW does this act as a deterrance of future theft? If anything, it's made our jobs more unsafe as Tesco and TSS have made it so easy to let people steal or bully the guards with their cowardly policies. Breaks unpaid but you will always get called to come for something occurring. A lot of guards have no bravado but Tesco don't care whatever happens, as long as incident reports are written(which don't lead to anything anyway). Radio and camera still has not been useful for me in the 6 years I have worked at this Birmingham store, I have been asked many times randomly if I am recording them even when camera is off. Also, a lot of people end up thinking you are following them with their bright uniform.
