Morale across the wider team appeared consistently low, with engagement levels seemingly dependent on closeness to leadership. There was a visible inner circle dynamic that influenced recognition and progression more than measurable performance. Staff turnover was significant and frequent. Recruitment cycles appeared routine, while long-term retention remained rare. Although departures were often attributed to “fit,” the pattern suggested something more systemic. Formal training, structured progression, and technical modernisation were notably lacking. The technical stack and service offerings felt dated compared to industry peers. Service desk staff were expected to operate simultaneously as support engineers, purchasers, account managers, and sales representatives — occasionally within the same call. Clear boundaries between technical delivery and revenue generation were blurred. Compensation did not consistently reflect workload or responsibility. Expectations were high; structural support was comparatively limited. Leadership regularly referenced aspirations of growth and evolution. However, strategic planning, delegation, and operational maturity did not appear aligned with those ambitions. Feedback mechanisms existed in conversation, though tangible change was less evident. Decision-making remained highly centralised, and alternative viewpoints were not always well received.

We recognise that working within our team requires a high degree of autonomy and adaptability. For some individuals, that level of flexibility is empowering and growth-oriented; for others, a more structured framework may be preferable. That said, we strongly believe this approach helps individuals develop confidence, ownership, and resilience. Qualities that support long-term career growth. Team morale, retention, and professional development are areas we take seriously. Over the past year, we have been investing in strengthening these areas. However, meaningful change does not happen overnight; it remains an ongoing and deliberate focus for us. As a smaller company, our team is our most important pillar. Ensuring the right mutual fit is essential, as a misalignment ultimately does not benefit either the employer or the employee. We respectfully disagree with the suggestion that decision-making is highly centralised or that alternative viewpoints are not well received. Encouraging open dialogue and diverse perspectives is important to us. That said, not every idea can always be implemented immediately, and progress often takes time and careful consideration. As an apprentice, I have received a lot of support from my colleagues. They have taken the time to teach me new skills and share their experience, which has helped me grow in confidence and knowledge. Everyone is patient, approachable and always willing to answer my questions. I recently went on my first site visit to deliver equipment, even though I only started driving to work a week ago. The team trusted me to represent the company, which meant a lot and helped build my confidence. The company also gives the administration team opportunities to attend events such as business expos, allowing us to network and represent the company professionally. This has helped me develop my communication skills and feel more involved in the wider business. Overall, the environment is positive, encouraging, and supportive.

There are no major negatives, but during busy periods it can sometimes feel slightly overwhelming while still learning. However, the team is always supportive and willing to help during these times.

The company has a genuinely friendly and supportive working environment. Being a small team with an open office layout lets everyone interact constantly, which helps build strong work relationships and makes collaboration easy. There are regular staff events, celebrations for birthdays, and frequent recognition i.e. bonuses, vouchers and team lunches. There is also regular salary reviews based on performance and government guidelines. There are also many benefits such as additional day off for your birthday, Health insurance etc. There is a strong focus on personal growth and development. Around half of the current workforce are completing apprenticeships at different levels. You are told honestly about your successes and your areas for improvement. Not everyone finds this feedback easy, but it is always delivered with the intention of helping individuals grow and become the best they can be. There are plenty of documented processes in place (even if not everyone always chooses to use them), which clearly outline procedures from setting up computers through to what to check before going on a site visit. If you have a genuine passion for IT, there are vast learning opportunities at Techys2u. Ultimately, you get out what you put in - people that are motivated and proactive will excel. Management is understanding and flexible when communication is open and honest. They are willing to accommodate requests wherever possible, but they can only address was is brought to them. Transparency is valued, and concerns are taken seriously when communicated properly. There are quarterly meeting held for all staff to have there say openly but also regular 1:1's were issues can be discussed more privately.

No onsite parking - although it does help get your steps in. Working in IT, particularly within an MSP, isn't for everyone. It can be fast-paced and at times stressful, with workloads fluctuating quickly. As it is a small team, it is difficult to hide if you are not pulling your weight. Development and progression are largely self-driven. If you are not motivated to take ownership of your own growth, you may struggle to succeed in this environment. The ticketing system is somewhat outdated, although it is currently being recoded, so this should improve very soon.

As a small business, we’ve always believed that an open environment, honest communication, and strong working relationships are essential to doing great work together. It’s also great to see the recognition of the learning opportunities available. Your point about development being self-driven is very fair. We try to create an environment where opportunities, support, and guidance are available, but ultimately the people who thrive here are those who are motivated to take ownership of their own progress and learning. IT, and especially MSP work, can certainly be fast-paced and challenging at times, but for those with a passion for the field it can also be incredibly rewarding. We also appreciate the constructive feedback. As mentioned, improvements to the ticketing platform are already underway. While onsite parking is unfortunately outside of our control, we hope the other benefits and flexibility we try to provide help balance this out.
