Vantaggi

- comprehensive barista and coffee training - great coworkers and generally good work environment - open later than most cafes so there are more shifts available throughout the day

Svantaggi

- difficult to grow outside of becoming a manager of a store - company eliminated the automatic annual pay raise for staying with the company year after year - you'll make much more in tips than you will in your paycheck. Tips from customers are what pays your bills and the amount of tips you receive is highly reliant on the shifts your manager schedules you for (mornings are obviously more lucrative). It's not a reliable way to count on the money coming in, and your income can fluctuate drastically based on whether you're in a manager's good graces or not. - it's very difficult to get a pay raise based on even outstanding performance.

Svantaggi

Temple Coffee Roasters struggles with workplace culture and management professionalism at the café level. Management has been observed speaking negatively about employees to other staff members, which undermines trust and contributes to a tense and uncomfortable work environment. The culture at this location is highly cliquish, particularly toward new hires. From the start, it becomes clear that employees either integrate into established social groups or are left on the outside. New team members often experience limited interaction, minimal support, and a generally standoffish attitude from coworkers, making onboarding unnecessarily difficult. Management also fails to consistently communicate expectations and performance standards. Guidelines and feedback are often vague or inconsistent, leaving employees unclear about expectations. This lack of clarity is especially challenging for individuals who rely on direct communication and explicit instruction, including employees on the spectrum or those who need additional clarification to succeed. There are also notable issues with basic managerial responsibilities. Work schedules are frequently released at the last minute, despite other locations providing schedules nearly two weeks in advance. This makes it difficult for employees to plan their personal lives and adds unnecessary stress. Additionally, management often does not hold itself to the same standards it enforces on employees. Expectations around professionalism, accountability, and conduct are applied unevenly, which comes across as hypocritical and further damages morale. Employee effort and hard work are rarely acknowledged. Staff are expected to perform at a high level under demanding conditions with little recognition or support from leadership. Concerns regarding professionalism and workplace health standards also exist. Management has come into work while visibly ill, including coughing openly, without apparent consideration for employee or customer well-being. Overall, this is an environment that can be mentally and emotionally draining. Employees who value clear communication, fairness, inclusivity, and supportive leadership may find this workplace challenging.
