Svantaggi
Having been a part of The LEGO Foundation for some time, I feel compelled to share my honest observations about the current state of leadership and workplace culture. While I appreciate the mission of the organization, I must express serious concerns about the direction it is taking under the current management. First and foremost, the leadership team has failed to deliver on multiple promises made to both employees and partners. The current strategy, introduced over a year ago, has seemed more like a recycled plan rather than a thoughtful, innovative approach to tackling our challenges. This strategy ultimately led to the unfortunate layoff of approximately 30% of our workforce. Although the layoffs were justified as part of a new direction, they appeared to disproportionately target those who were vocal or critical of leadership decisions. Ironically, shortly after these layoffs, the organization began hiring again for roles that could have been filled by those who had been let go. Fast forward a year, and we are now faced with another new strategy that appears set to deconstruct the work we’ve put into place, with another round of layoffs of about 50% of the staff count. The lack of continuity and respect for the efforts of staff is disheartening, further exacerbated by dismissive responses from leadership when challenged about these changes. When questioned, the leadership distanced themselves from accountability by stating that no leadership can promise anything, which only served to undermine employee morale and trust. Sadly, it feels like the leadership team operates without a strong understanding of our field or the positive impact we could create. Their actions often reflect personal greedy agendas rather than a unified organizational purpose. The lack of empathy and basic leadership skills has fostered a toxic environment characterized by fear and mistrust. In particular, some Human Resources practices have demonstrated a troubling lack of competence and an inability to connect with our organization's culture and people, often ruling through fear and punishing constructive feedback — even going so far as to disclose anonymous comments from our PULSE surveys and going after colleagues who wrote them. The atmosphere within the foundation is far from professional; there are glaring deficiencies in career planning, strategic direction for teams, professional development opportunities, and a coherent mission that utilizes our skills effectively. Many employees feel fearful of leadership, which contradicts the supportive environment expected from an organization of our purported values.
