Essay writing tutors get paid less than other disciplines and are not eligible for concurrent sessions, making it impossible to increase pay per hour, even though trying to teach good essay skills is every bit as challenging (and sometimes more so) since there is no "right" answer to work towards as in math and science. Management admits that it is not possible to do concurrent sessions with the focus that essay writing demands, but hasn't adjusted the pay scale to make up for it. It is often very difficult to do a good job within a 24 minute session. Sometimes a student gets transferred 3 or more times on one essay before a review is completed. Then each new tutor almost has to start from the beginning to understand what was done already and where to go next. I find I have to correct structural mistakes previous tutors have made. Students get angry when you have to make up a reason why you can't continue. Management doesn't want you to say that their time is up. Then they give you a low rating because they are frustrated and so are you because you have no way to respond to the low rating and it immediately affects your status.
