The "non profit" label on this hospital is a joke. They have outstanding operating margins, and their executives are all one percenters. Yet they still tell concerned staff that taking care of the poor in Denver and Aurora is not an essential part of their mission. And lest you think the revenue is being invested in staff so they can take better care of patients, think again. Night and weekend staff took a substantial pay cut this year, but are being worked harder than ever. Floors run short regularly, with a lot of empty promises from upper leadership about hiring. Despite the inability to keep staff nurses around, the hospital continues to expand and the system keeps acquiring new properties. UC Health is sinking millions of dollars into expansion and executive salaries, yet reduces RN pay and refuses to adjust staffing to match acuity. Leaders have absolutely no concern for or clue about how overworked front line staff are. Ultimately, it's the patients who suffer, and the mix of high acuity, inexperienced nurses, and routine short staffing will show its deleterious effects on patient care.

High Acuity patients Maintain Skillset Job security

Too many patients in a day and not enough time to spend with them. Minimal admin time to manage InBasket and patient needs. Frequently need to juggle a full and complex patient schedule with urgent test results and care coordination. Have to use personal PTO to cover holidays and any time the clinic is closed due to circumstances outside of our control. (weather, power outages, etc) Annual performance Bonuses are now being determined by online patient feedback scores.
