Personnel of all walks of life and racial background have the opportunity to rise to leadership positions. Families, especially in overseas locations, are closely knitted together. The pay is fairly adequate for the level of responsibility, but is balanced out by the chance to provide a service to nation.

The deployment tempo has steadily increased over the years and does not appear that it will slow down anytime soon. This has a destabilizing effect on military families and adds stress to the military member's life. The pay is on the low end of personnel in the civilian sector with similar responsibilities. Additionally, funding for operations and maintenance of military recreational facilities and housing has decreased due to budget constraints.
