Overall, the navy is a great place to work. The thrill of visiting different countries, the happy reunions with loved ones on return home from a deployment, and generally the satisfaction that you are working for a cause that is great and extremely important.

Being away from your family and the long hours that are often required of you. The other downside is that excellent sailors and officers are often overlooked or passed up for promotion due to the mass amounts of red tape that exists. On the flip side, under achievers can some times be promoted due to circumstances or just pure luck. The promotion and advancement process needs improvement in order the effectively promote brilliance, excellence, and hard work. The incentives to work above and beyond are few and far between.
