Vantaggi

No job in the world mathces the possible excitement of a submarine officer. The long hours, time away from family, and difficult working conditions are almost completely washed away in 4-6 hours of watch in a difficult (re: challenging) situation. In addition, the medical benefits, vacation alloted, retirement packages are not paralleled in any industry.

Svantaggi

Time away from home and family is the most difficult part of military life. A seven month deployment can bring large amounts of stress and possibly hardship. The regimented day/lifestyle are difficult to accept if you are a self-motivated and competent person. Working within the limited freedom of the military and possibly under difficult environments dictated by leadership problems is more typical than one would think.

Vantaggi

It is what you make out of it. You'll have good days and bad days. It's all dependent on your leadership. That can make or break the command. Medical is free, but can take a while to get seen. You'll meet a lot of new people and could travel around the world depending on your duty station. Education benefits and training.

Svantaggi

Medical can take a while to get seen, unless it's an emergency. If you're single, the pay isn't that great, but you don't have to much to worry about for bills if you live on base. If you're on sea duty billet, your work life balance will be terrible.

Vantaggi

Job security is a plus with a large amount of your wage being untaxed as a married e-4.

Svantaggi

Work/Life balance just isn't there depending on command.
