The pay and benefits are hands down great until you compare it with the work expected of you. Fellow carriers, at least in my office, were some of the most helpful and supportive individuals I have ever worked with.

Missorted DPS mail, established carriers that frequently call off with no consequences but for fellow carriers who have to pick up the extra load from uncovered routes, being given limited office time and street time by supervisors regardless of the mail volume or weather conditions, inconsistent schedules and days off from week to week with no explanation as to why, finished your route and think your day is done - think again, there's probably some extra relays that somehow failed to go out the door first thing in the morning that need delivery, randomly being assigned Amazon package delivery work on Sunday or holidays - what? USPS delivering packages for Amazon? Yes, it's true. Fun fact: if you have an accident, it's your fault. Some might think this is just vehicle specific but no if while checking the mail (as you're instructed to do) while walking to the next stop you happen to trip and fall. It's your fault and if an accident report needs to be filled out during your 90 day probationary period - you can be terminated. Everything is about delivering more and delivering faster but you still need to obey the speed limits, lock up your vehicle, curb the tires at every time you exit. Notice other delivery service drivers driving with their doors wide open or leaving the vehicle unsecured as they drop off packages? That's a no-no for USPS. Not to mention the rickety state of the long life vehicles (LLV) that still comprise the greater portion of the USPS delivery fleet - from driver side doors that are difficult to lock to some rear doors that are hard to open and all points you can imagine in between... it's the nuisance headache that keeps on giving. There are newer trucks out there but depending where you are they are few and far between as the ages old rusted and clanking LLV's continue to be patched along and pressed to serve.
