Vantaggi
Fun environment to work in. Great cosmetic and salon brands for sale. Good sales and discounts for employees and customers. The staff in stores are great for the most part and very fun to work with. Excellent salon! ULTA could be a great place to make a career, but a lot of changes need to be implemented or they will continue to lose experienced managers.
Svantaggi
Salaried managers are not allowed to have 2 days off in a row together, however they are expected to work well over 40 hours a week 'for the business needs" but there never seems to be a time for the employees "needs". Pay does not match what managers are expected to do. Managers are therapists, electricians, plumbers, accountants, body guards as well as make up artists and sales people. Communication from corporate is never filtered to the G.M.'s in a proper timely fashion, yet the managers are held accountable when things aren't done correctly or deadlines aren't met. People are promoted NOT on merit or hard work, but on how well you can brown nose the senior management team. So people are constantly being promoted into roles that they are not qualified for while others are "overlooked" for what ever reason senior management seems fit. There is no consistency throughout the company when it comes to policies. Some employees are terminated for things that may be happening at a store 5 miles down the street. District Managers taking vacation with Salon Managers or General Managers is allowed even though other managers may perceive this as favoritism within the market. ULTA claims to have an open door policy, but whenever someone calls HR, they are considered "trouble makers" and are usually terminated or treated so badly that they soon quit. Managers are treated like children and are made to call into their DM when they are sick, leaving work early, running late or even if they have to go to the doctor or the dentist! Senior management is quick to attack you when you're not performing but very rarely commend you on a job well done creating low moral in the stores.Turn over is almost 100% because they promise you the moon during the interview and then never deliver once you're hired.
