Vantaggi
- Colleagues and people you interacted with were generally lovely people and often managed to enjoy shifts. - Generally a very diverse and inclusive workplace. - Somewhat flexible on shifts and rotas; as a TL you would do the rotas yourself but the general shift patterns for some buildings are still 7am - 3pm or 2pm - 10pm. - Nice sense of responsibility, and managing your building felt like you were making a difference to the students living there, no matter how small. - Opportunity to work across different areas, e.g. running events for the building, or managing finances and debt chasing etc. - Decent salaries for all roles*. - Annual bonus was great, although some criteria that would exclude you from receiving this was questionable. - Access to some medical expense coverage and other perks through company website.
Svantaggi
- The TL role is more like a manager role as you would lead most of the operations for that particular building (only 1 TL per building, regardless of size). The extra responsibility was good at times but felt like you were doing a lot for someone who is not technically management. - Very little support offered when it came to certain issues, and felt like there was a lack of understanding/compassion from upper management . - Virtually no opportunity for upward development due to lack of positions. With 1 TL for each building, and 1 or 2 Student Experience Manager (the role above TL) per city, there was very little chance to develop further than the TL position. - *I noticed a lot of discrepancies in how different people were paid. This was sometimes brought up to management and seemed to be dismissed for the most part. There would be team leaders with prior experience running a very large building on a lower salary than a team leader with no previous experience running a small building, Also a female member of staff being paid lower than their male colleague in the same role at the same building, with the same level of experience - both instances felt very unfair and when questioned on this and whether they could be placed on the same salary management simply said 'it was at the discretion of the person who hired them initially' - Due to the nature of problems that some students face, the incidents dealt with could be very intense at times. This is a standard part of the role but I feel it is worth mentioning as the training for these scenarios can be quite upsetting as well. - At certain times of the year there was very little work/life balance and I personally felt like I was taking a lot of work home with me. This may be different depending on role/building though.
