Vantaggi

Visionary products are developed with the end-user in-mind, and the company is agile enough to add or adjust the development roadmap to create the most effective tools for end-users.

Svantaggi

The company is very small, which created challenges for growth & advancement opportunities. Also, the challenges in marketing the products created unstable job security.

Vantaggi

As an intern I racked up 11 samples in one semester, including both 1,500 word print spreads and 500 word blog posts. I got to do interviews, visited a local business, and they were excited when I offered to shoot video - another great thing I now have for my portfolio. I was even asked to participate in editorial meetings. The publisher and editor have both give me excellent references. The office is relaxed, and everyone is very congenial. And they are growing; they're a small outfit and they're growing their audience.

Svantaggi

They rely heavily on interns. There's a constant ebb-and-flow of interns, and the company has just whittled down their full-time staff as they move towards the horrible freelancing model. $150/article, not horrible, but you're unlikely to find full-time or even part-time work, unless you apply for their new in-house PR firm.

Vantaggi

If you like sitting and staring at your phone for the work day that’s something you will be doing a lot of here. Bosses are never in so you can come and go.

Svantaggi

If you are looking for a positive internship experience that you will get something out of, please click over this Craigslist posting (should be the first red flag). I have never seen a more unprofessional work environment in my life. The boss is never in, but when he is, he is obnoxious, fake, and will argue out loud for all to hear. He charges obscene amounts of money for ads (where he gets all his money) and rips off clients left and right. He’s a total scammer, and promises the moon with nothing in return, and it’s sad to see. Then, some smarten up and he flips out when they want to stop paying him. There’s a reason why each issue has different advertisers. The tension in this office is so bad you could cut it with a knife. Interns come and go, but the very few staff members and interns alike have no direction, they sit around on their phones and eat all day, then when deadlines come up, it is utter chaos. Most of the work is done by the graphic designer, and I suppose if you’re coming to write you can be busy sometimes, but the two writers ideas are usually shot down for delusional ones by the boss. Don’t feel too bad though, they’re not pleasant either. Don’t expect anything to come from your time in the office, including any sort of pay, and if you do for some reason take a position there, it would be advised to just stop showing up, not that anyone would notice or care regardless.
