Vantaggi
UCD is a highly reputable institution with a clear commitment to teaching, research and student support. The campus environment is excellent, and there are many opportunities to work on meaningful projects that have a real impact on the university community. I had the chance to collaborate with talented, dedicated colleagues and found many people across the organisation to be genuinely supportive and professional. Pay and benefits are generally competitive for the sector, and there is good access to training and development opportunities on paper.
Svantaggi
Your experience at UCD can vary significantly depending on your immediate team and line manager. In my case, I faced a lack of support and flexibility when returning from maternity leave, which made an already challenging period much harder than it needed to be. Although the university publicly endorses values such as dignity, respect and work–life balance, the practical implementation of these values can be inconsistent at local level. Decisions around flexible working and phased return seemed to rely too heavily on individual managerial preference, rather than on clear, consistently applied policies. The management style I experienced felt unsupportive and, at times, unnecessarily adversarial, which had a negative impact on my well-being and my ability to perform at my best.
