UHN's HR Department is probably the core of its problems. Supervisors and Managers hire whomever they want - no HR screening. Often the management is inexperienced, poorly educated, and incredibly unethical. and the staff they hire are usually mates and family. My department was run by two men who did all that they could to avoid promoting/coaching women. Males in the department had the top jobs/pay while women, who did the same work as the men, were titled and paid much lower. When pay equity received a complaint, the department along with HR quickly got rid of old policies/job descriptions and wrote new ones to satisfy pay equity just so that they wouldn't have to pay women more money. Disgusting. This isn't the first department that I worked in that was like this. UHN does have the potential to be wonderful, but until they start really using their HR department to enforce the organizational codes of conduct and policies as well as managing their middle management, they will never improve.
