There are no pros. You interview and plan and buy props and go through a week long of arduous training online and offline only to be rushed through policy training and your pre-existing commitments are not honored. How can one not go to a Wedding or transport their ailing mother? What is interesting about it is that they approve you through the interview, and reject you once you bring up time off. They only pay once per month, and very politely engage you the entire time of hiring. However the TL's are non-supportive and condescending at a minimum, as if this is the greatest opportunity in a lifetime and you better not ever not show up for a class or ask for a sub. Interestingly enough - the Chinese are suppose to value family, particularly support of their elderly population - but when it comes to a teacher's already committed schedule which only involved two days of transporting my ailing mother with Cancer on the airline, they sent me an email stating that "Chinese children get angry when they do not have the same teacher and have to have a sub, and to apply again when my schedule was better."

Hired and told at Interview that a wedding/transport of sick mother was acceptable to take time off. When it actually came down to it, they dismissed me.

First and foremost, we extend our sympathies to your ailing mother and the difficult position you are put in as carer. It is never easy to balance the priorities of life with work obligations. Unfortunately, our recruiters and trainers are never able to guarantee time off requests during the hiring process since leave permissions can only be reviewed and granted by administration. We will communicate this procedure more clearly in future. You are absolutely correct that family is valued highly in China. This fact is why the parents of our students demand such high standards: they want only the most reliable and high-performing teachers for their children to help pave the future they are trying to construct for them. This perspective combined with the intense climate of work expectations in China can sometimes create cultural differences that are challenging to navigate. We apologize that we could not make this emotionally taxing time easier for you. It is also regretful that you did not feel supported by your Team Leader, but we hope that you can take comfort in the knowledge that the TL position has since been dissolved. Your concerns have all been noted, and we will strive to improve our support system for future teachers in similar situations to your own. We wish that you had had a more positive experience with us at VIPX, but thank you for your honest review all the same. May you have the best of luck with your future endeavours.

This is one of those companies with Draconian attendance policies. They expect "100% attendance" . I did not request any leave for an entire year, not one class. When I finally did due to a surgery I had to have they gave me a very hard time about it. I was shocked. I also needed to request missing one other class because my father was in the hospital and had no one to take him home..they denied my request. The absence that I had to take for my surgery caused my "attendance rate" to go below their ridiculous threshold that you need to get a raise so therefore I was not eligible-despite the fact that I had over a 90% student retention rate for a year! When they denied my request to help my father, that was enough and I quit. They also ask you to participate in a ton of extra work that is unpaid, like extremely comprehensive student reviews, contests etc They say that if you participate you will get more points toward a raise-like blackmail. I would not recommend this company because of this. There are many others that give more flexibilty. Don't waste your time getting stuck with a company that makes obtaining a raise so difficult.

As for the extra workload that you described, though participation in company incentive programs does not go unnoticed, they are not the only path to raises or promotions. The occasional contests we host are entirely optional, meant only to inspire a sense of company culture and provide the opportunity to earn financial bonuses. We regret that they made you feel undue pressure to participate; we will adjust our announcements in future to make that clearer.
