Vantaggi
Full time employees are eligible for Verizon’s excellent tuition assistance program. This is especially beneficial for online students (if you work here you won’t be able to do anything but online though, see the cons) because they pay tuition up front, not reimbursement. For a person without a college degree, the pay is excellent and much more than can be made in retail or fast food. And if you can sell, it’s even better. Health insurance can’t be beat. Nearly everything is covered and as of yet, most employees don’t pay for the insurance. Sales if rewarded if you can sell. The bar is set very high, but if you can make it the benefits are amazing. Vacations, trips, gift cards….Granted, it’s not as great as it used to be because of constant cut backs but you don’t get extra perks like those at a retail job.
Svantaggi
Verizon is not very understanding when it comes to absences of any kind. They have a very strict attendance policy that does not allow much room for flexibility. For the most part, management is not helpful and in some cases is downright disrespectful to those they supervise. There is no HR to complain to. Expect to be overwhelmed and don’t get used to anything because policies etc. change constantly which is very frustrating. Bonuses sound excellent and obtainable, but if you are not good with sales don’t anticipate meeting their goals. They set the bar high purposely and route calls so only certain people get the sales. Like any other call center I’ve worked for (several) there are the specific negatives that are in every call center. Everything is based off sales and if the right people (usually management and those in with management) don’t like you, you will be targeted and you will be gone. This is not a job that is 100% dependable because you can be fired based on technicalities and if your union is unreliable like ours is, there is no one to fight for you. There is no way to retaliate if you are treated unfairly. It is every person for themselves. This is a job that you don’t want to plan on staying with for years and years. There are actually doubts among us on the front line that it will last for years and years. Everything trickles downwards and there is a reason customers don’t want to be with the company. Employees don’t want to be with it either.
