Engaging multiple references, involving senior people from my professional history, and creating expectations that suggest a strong interest, only to end with a rejection without clear reasoning or feedback, feels unnecessary and poorly managed. If a candidate reaches the reference check stage and senior stakeholders are already being involved, there should be a higher level of clarity, communication, and respect for everyone’s time including the people who took time to speak on my behalf. Overall, it felt like an overextended process that didn’t match the final outcome. Professionalism is not just about how you interview candidates, but also about how you close the loop with them.
