Vantaggi

Flexible schedule, lots of down time in the summer, company car, phone, etc... Good option if you already have multiple years of publishing sales experience under your belt and have decided that you want to make this industry a long term career. IF you have successful outside sales experience in a different industry, as I did before coming to Wiley, STAY AWAY. There are better opportunities for those who already have a solid outside sales background than publishing. Read the Cons below to know why...

Svantaggi

Zero training, I mean LITERALLY zero training. It's sink or swim as you are given some online resources and a few conference calls to understand how to use the CRM and other technology, but than you're thrown in the furnace. I did not sink, but swam and was told I am on track for rookie of the year, but it was an awful experience working through all the tech issues, restructuring, lower quality of medical benefits with new calendar year (have been told they are on a steady decline), lack of leadership in the district, lack of synergy from their "mentor program" (its a joke), faculty will put blame on you for issues that are outside your scope of control (result of constant issues within Wiley), NO opportunity for growth despite what they will tell you as you initially interview with them, bonus structure sucks, etc, etc... I put in my notice after a full year of hard work, in which I've received multiple recognition's, and have heard radio silence from my manager. Eventually getting a very unprofessional email regarding my resignation. I understand that no one likes to see a good employee go, but please have the maturity and professionalism to see that the decision may be for that persons benefit and be supportive and wish them the best. Take it from many others on Glassdoor and someone who's been around the block with outside sales and STAY AWAY from Wiley and from publishing. There are MANY better options for the, ambitious, hard worker.

Vantaggi

Decent pay and benefits for publishing.

Svantaggi

Once of the most toxic work environments I've ever worked at. Upper management tears editors down if you are not a favorite. Favorites are chosen by metrics that do not exist, and are subjective and arbitrary. Wiley is losing money because brilliant, young editors leave due to no support and toxic work environments. Wiley Trade is essentially a hybrid publisher. Author's put a lot of money into their book -- too much. There is very very little marketing and publicity support for authors. But they brand as more than there actually is. All in all a very sad place to work and sad for authors.
