Vantaggi
Nothing. This is the worst place I have ever worked in..... by a very long way.
Svantaggi
Everything! Basically you are treated like either an animal, a slave or a prisoner (pick which ever you'd prefer)
There is no training. The "induction" is being told by the team leader to just fill out the forms and tick the boxes. No health and safety at all, then there is a quick tour of the warehouse pointing out the toilets, fire exits etc.
95% of the staff are Romanian and believe me, you will not fit in if you are a Brit.
You will feel isolated all day as you won't have anybody to talk to.
The job I applied for was 'Goods In Operative' but my first and second (which ended up being my last) days were spent doing what they call "cleaning"
What this actually means is scanning and tidying boxes/items on messy pallets in a crowded row of aisles. After a while you will have to clamber over mounds of cardboard which other workers just throw in the middle of the aisles you are expexcted to work in. The designated area will be sorted in a couple of hours, but you will just be left to stretch that out for the remaining 6 hours of your shift, just looking at the same boxes over and over again.
As a new starter this will be the task they give to you as it's clearly the most boring and pointless job there.
Once you are inside the warehouse (via thumb print recognition) you will not be allowed out again without permission from a team leader, so if you need a drink or to get something from your bag, forget it until it's either your break time or time to go home.
Speaking of home time, you will actually be finished at 16:30, but you will have to literally walk around for 30 minutes to "look busy" as you are not allowed to stand still (direct quote from long term staff member)
Then you will have to join a huge que at 17:00 and it usually takes 15-20 mins before you actually get out of the building, you of course won't be paid for this extra time though. Side note: the regular staff clearly start queing long before 17:00, but they of course get away with it)
You will not be allowed to take your phone or any valuables into the warehouse, so you can either leave your possessions in the canteen where they could easily be stolen, or leave them with security where there is literally a sign on the security office window saying that even if something happens to your belongings while in the security office, they are not responsible so 'complain' is pointless. So basically, if your things get stolen, too bad. (charming)
Some of the forklift drivers just wizz around without using their horn, so you have to be extra mindful of this when walking around (again, no health and safety at all)
My last point is regarding the lack of overall lack of hygene in this warehouse. The whole place is filthy. Prime example, in the gents tolilets there are no locks on either of the two cubicles, so you have no privacy whilst on the toilet. Luckily there is a bucket in there under one of the urinals used to catch water drips from a leaking pipe, so I was able to slide that into the cubicle with my foot and use it to push the door closed. By way, the toilets are also disgusting with graffitti all over the walls.
Honestly, just being in that place will make you physically and mentally unwell. Don't believe me? Try working there. My advice though would be to AVOID at all costs!
