Senior management are self-serving political operatives with weak technology backgrounds. They act as if "House of Cards" is their how-to guide. The CEO enjoys making snide comments about subordinates. He thinks it's funny and in good fun and it gets laughs, but there's a meanness to it that makes people uncomfortable. If you're not a libertarian / free-market conservative you wouldn't feel comfortable here and you won't get hired, so don't even bother to interview. If you are a libertarian / free-market conservative you will think this is the place for you -- until you get here and are disappointed at the ineptitude and how poorly they're doing to the advance the causes you care about. Acceptance and advancement is all based on office politics not on technical contributions. The most mediocre employees who make the managers feel smart in comparison become the favorites.The software is chronically buggy and clients are unhappy. It's a frustrating and demoralizing environment for people who actually know what they're doing. A disturbing number of new hires end up leaving after a few months. I don't know whether they've quit or been fired, they just disappear from the office and nobody ever mentions them again. There are many good places for a capable software developer to do rewarding work in the DMV. This is not one of them.
