Let's see... - As a consultant, expect to be dropped into a project using a technology you know nothing about and being expected to deliver it like you're an expert - Expect to have engagements dropped on you at the last minute - Expect a LOT of travel between engagements (which tend to be quite short) and no sympathy - Expect a cliquey atmosphere when you visit head office and to be treated like you don't quite fit in - Expect to be dealing with a hoard of 18 year old school leavers running the helpdesk and bulk of IT operations at head office - Expect these minimum wage guys to be qualified to the hilt with phony MCP's - Expect the company to actually encourage its employees to gain said MCP's by any means necessary and look the other way - Expect something of a "brainwashed" culture at head office, where employees buy into the emphatic ra-ra speeches the two owners like to deliver with alarming frequency - Expect most non-office based workers to see through these speeches as nothing but empty rhetoric - Expect that very soon the owners begin to ditch the facade that their employees happiness is more important than their profits (just check their year end reports on Companies House and you'll see what I mean) - Expect that pretty soon you'll realise there's a lot to be said for being treated like a number at a faceless corporation, as the opposite is pretty nauseating
