The advantages depend a lot on the group you are in. Some cutting edge machinery and instruments

The building is old, there are crickets (!?), and the building layout does not drive communication between labs. You meet people from other labs rarely, mainly at meetings. More recent university have open spaces where it is easier to communicate with people from other labs
