Arcadis embarked on the transformation of Richmond's Fraser River edge, giving birth to the vibrant River Green Village. Originally the site of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics' Olympic Oval, this community now seamlessly blends residences, parks, and amenities. To overcome height regulations imposed by its proximity to Vancouver International Airport, we created innovative stepped building forms, providing unobstructed riverfront views. Just 22 minutes from Vancouver, River Green Village has reimagined Richmond's waterfront, becoming a dynamic urban hub where living, working, and leisure converge. Last September 13, our Ethnicity & Heritage Affinity Group hosted a global webinar to mark the anniversary of the United Nations’ Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People. We heard from colleagues across the world sharing their own experiences as well as highlighting the ways that we can all demonstrate allyship in nurturing the relationships that we have with indigenous and first nation people both within Arcadis and across the societies that we operate. In this month’s I Belong video Abbie brings to life her story, and the ways we weave culture into how we deliver our work. Belonging means creating platforms and spaces for us to share and learn together and our 2023 calendar has been packed with insightful and authentic conversations. These will continue into October, as we prepare for Black History Month in the UK. We’ll be celebrating the culture and histories of our Black communities with a comprehensive programme of events, including the return of our BHM Book Group along with weekly podcasts and key note speakers. This year our programme will be based around the UK Black History Month theme: Celebrating our sisters/Saluting our sisters/Matriarchs of Movements #WEMATTER, highlighting the crucial role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities.
