To celebrate and recognise teammates for their perseverance through the pandemic in 2021, we announced a Carousell Group-wide office closure from Dec 27 to Dec 31. We hope that this will allow our teammates to rest, recharge and reconnect with loved ones. In addition, some of the teams have also structured work and coordinated leave taking in December. For example, the Tech team will have all initiatives, projects, deliverables or sprint plans consider the office to be closed for the week of Dec 20- 24th as well. To round up the year-end, our People Team is organising a series of activities with the theme “CarouKids’ Playground” to bring us back to a place where we can embrace the kid in us and have unhindered fun. Goodie bags filled with treats from our childhood, curated specially for each of our nine office locations, have been sent in batches to our CarouTeam. The growth of ecommerce has accelerated with the pandemic, however the growth of ecommerce comes with the problem of waste and overconsumption. Carousell’s vision is to inspire others to make secondhand as their first choice, and we have been driving efforts to accelerate the growth of recommerce. We launched the Carousell Recommerce Index (2021 report) that looks at the trend and role of recommerce, as well as consumer behaviour towards secondhand across our eight markets—Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam—in four Carousell Group brands, namely Carousell, Chợ Tốt, Mudahmy Sdn Bhd and OneKyat - Myanmar Buy & Sell.
Our Taiwan Development Centre had a special hybrid Halloween Special Event where they were split into teams to compete in a game of charades. Bonus points were given for teams who had the scariest costume or make up, and we discovered many talented actors. His finance background in audit and financial modelling was a natural complement to his current role that involves forecasting and budgeting, including presenting insights and recommendations for the business growth. The Business Intelligence team comprises Data Analytics and Revenue Analytics teams, and both support various stakeholders to make business decisions by translating data into insights. The team also works closely with other brands in the Carousell Group for cross learning sharing sessions. We are happy to announce that we have secured a US$100 million investment from STIC Investments, a leading Korean private equity firm. This will raise Carousell Group’s valuation to US$1.1 billion, following last year’s investment by Naver and 2019’s acquisitions of OLX Philippines and 701Search. STIC’s investment is a validation of our mission and strategic direction. The investment will power our Group's ambitions to redefine commerce for secondhand goods and automobiles in an increasingly digitally savvy, affluent and sustainability-conscious region. Over the years, we have heard many inspiring stories from our users across the region how they have made more possible for each other, such as supporting their community, starting new businesses, and making new like-minded friends (and for some, meeting their spouses).
