Juneteenth commemorates the day when enslaved people in Texas were informed of their freedom two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, a crucial day in American history that has often been overlooked. It is not only a celebration of freedom, but also one of opportunity, equity and access and a chance for everyone to consider what freedom means to each of us.
