      Colloquio

This was honestly the worst interview experience I have ever gone through. First of all, you have to submit a generic application form. It’s very long but pretty bog standard. Next you have to go through some tests which are easy enough, just prepare for this section and you will do well. After this you have to do a video interview, which for the most part is pretty straight forward. Don’t get nervous whilst doing it and you’ll be fine. The group interview is the worst part of the application process and has seriously annoyed me. You go into the interview with six other candidates. First of all you introduce yourself by saying your name and telling everyone what your favourite Aldi product is (Basically big up the Aldi products and play their game). You’re then asked to do a presentation on a certain topic linked to the store walk which you have to do prior to the interview. As a member of management for a supermarket already, I felt I was able to demonstrate my knowledge pretty well so get to understand supermarket terminology and get to the Aldi business model. You’re then asked to read through four CV’s to select a manager for a project. This part was tough as you only have ten minutes to read through the applications and highlight their key skills. You present your choice individually and then in a group you decide which candidate you want to put forward. The assessor immediately snaps into charecter and rips into your decision. The assessor during the role play was extremely rude and uncooperative and if this is what managers are like in Aldi then your life will be a misery working for them. After this you have to provide feedback on a piece of paper about how well you did and how well your group did. I felt this was pretty awful as you had to turn your back on all the candidates and big yourself up without sounding too arrogant or cocky. Three days later, I found out that I wasn’t successful after the group interview and I was fuming. It was a generic and pre written ‘no’ email and didn’t provide any feedback. This really annoyed me as I travelled for 11 hours and spent close to £100 to get up to Bolton for the interview (which wasn’t reimbursed) and I was given no feedback. Aldi boasts about being efficient, but it’s evident that this efficiency means that the human side of management is cold and put to one side. If you’re only going for this role because of the company car and £45k a year then do not bother. It’s not worth it. This is the coldest and most awful interview process I have gone through. If Aldi want more efficiency then they should look to cut their application process down (All in all it took me about 4-5 months to get to the group interview). Good luck to anyone going for this job because I would highly recommend not going for this job. Cold hearted and awful process. I have been to other assessment centres and they were structured far better and provided a fun environment to work in rather than a cold hearted process by which you are just ‘another application’. Also we were told in the interview that our group interview was assessed by a computer and not on the assessors actual perceptions of us. You have to play the Aldi game to make sure you get through.

Application was straight forward Video interview was around 6 questions with one minute to think and one minute to record Online test were easier than most jobs on Penn resources- numerical, reading and pattern. Assessment Centre was two hours we discussed a topic for our store walk: Competitor analysis, branding and merchandise, Corporate social responsibility. Then we were given 4 CVs to read and select the best one based off skills, location, feedback. then I had the final interview: CV screening, I was asked who were therein stakeholders in my life, how I would deal with demands of the job ect

Overly lengthy application process. They are looking for a very particular individual regardless of technical experience or capability. If you have a group of people that are not particularly capable, It is almost impossible to do the group exercise properly without coming across as overbearing.
