      Colloquio per Senior Software Engineer

      1 mag 2020
      Candidato anonimo a colloquio

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto 3 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Bluecore (New York, NY)

      Colloquio

Recruiter call, technical phone screen, and on-site went smoothly. The recruiter went over their 'tribe' system, and I expressed strong interest in two specific teams which aligned with my experience and goals, and pointed out teams I didn't see a good fit for. The interviewers were mostly young engineers (some were new grads with ~6 months exp). On-site consisted of standard data-structure/algo questions with a splash of design and a behavioral. The office was nice but packed, and I enjoyed the open lunch area with couches -- felt like a friendly environment. Up to this point, the experience was positive. Had a followup call with the recruiter who went over the very positive feedback received. Was told that an engineering director would call to discuss team matching details further. Received a call from a manager who immediately made a verbal offer...for a team I had told the recruiter I didn't see the strongest fit with. Given the described purpose of the call of team matching, I said I could see some fit, but also mentioned the other teams I was interested in. Then, in the following three weeks, I was completely ghosted by the recruiter and directors/managers despite many followup emails I sent. Shocked by this level of unprofessional behavior, I reached out to two ex-Bluecore employees who had worked there for over 3 years each in engineering. One response was very negative; the other was positive, but informed of huge attrition in engineering the past year which resulted in 20-25% of the org leaving in a span of several months. The resulting talent/resource spread was apparently very imbalanced across teams, so they had tried to force me into a team that was under high duress regardless of my preference. Seems that I dodged a bullet. Either the recruiter had misled me from the start, or the people behind the process misled them, and nobody wanted to take responsibility or be transparent. The fact that they cold halted communication after a verbal offer is incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful.

      Domanda 1

New grads gave normal algo questions. Their communication was good, which I was a fan of. Design was with a principal engineer, pretty basic discussion.

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 2 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Bluecore nel mese di ott 2025

      Colloquio

The interview process was very smooth and well-structured. The first interview was with the manager. It was a relaxed and pleasant conversation where we talked about my past projects, experiences, and the company itself. I also had the chance to ask several questions about their culture and way of working. The second session was a technical interview with an engineer, focused on my background, technical knowledge, and previous challenges I had worked on. The third stage was a live coding session with a pretty standard algorithmic challenge. We discussed different approaches and trade-offs, and I implemented the required solution. In the final stage, I had to design a Tic Tac Toe system, but it was a verbal system design interview (no whiteboard). Unfortunately, I received the rejection right after this round.
