I had an initial interview that went very well. The position was a good fit for my background and skillset. After an initial call with a recruiter, I had a Zoom interview with a woman who said she was impressed and asked me to send some writing clips. She promised to get back to me within a week. I sent the clips over immediately and waited. And waited. Long story short, after stringing me along for more than a month, she called me and told me they gave the job to a "digital native who had a lot of energy and drive." I've experienced a lot of subtle age discrimination in the past, but this was the most blatant. It's also completely unfair, because I possess all the technical skills needed for the job and am a working journalist. I hope when this recruiter gets to be my age, she can understand what it feels like to be looking for a job in a youth-obsessed employment market and tossed aside for no reason other than your age.
