      Colloquio

I made it through the entire process. I wish I had taken the advice seriously here that said DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! I missed out on applying and interviewing for jobs that respected my time by studying for this. The recruiter I worked with was great. She kept me in the loop and in constant contact. But the whole process is extremely flawed. She asked what I thought at each step but how can I genuinely tell you that your interview process sucks while I'm still trying to go through with it? Newsflash, your process is terrible. No matter how well you interview, if you mess up at all in a case study they throw your candidacy in the garbage. 1st round - recruiter call 2nd round - 45 minute case study 3rd round - 60 minute case study + 30 minute interview final round - 60 minute case study + 30 minute interview (about a week in between each round) The first case study I got feedback that I was lacking confidence. I completely understood and have no problem with hearing that, but at the same time I was not going to confidentially give answers to test questions over the phone. I'd rather be humble and collaborative than proudly shout the wrong answer. My interviewer and I got along well though. The second case study we were very collaborative together and he understood how difficult it was doing this over zoom. It went well. The hiring manager interview followed after and he was easy going and asked normal questions about experience. We definitely connected. The third case study was atrocious. It was the only lady I met with, she was frozen when first joined and that was distracting. I was talking to a frozen picture on zoom for the first ten minutes. Finally she fixed it and then it seemed that we had to speed through the set up of the problem. I also felt like she didn't care to be there or work with me, and seemed to be looking at her phone. There were maybe ten questions total, two theoretical questions I knew were a problem as I couldn't think of answers fast enough for them, and instead of receiving encouragement or hints there was awkward silence. The first was asking hypotheses on what would cause margin to be down. I admit I should have known the theoretical answer instead of just the mathematical one, but I forgot under pressure that we were dealing with sportsbook bets where the bets have to come in balanced. If she had mentioned anything about the initial restrictions I would have gotten it. Or if I was able to work without a microscope on me like a normal job. The second that tripped me up a bit was on if there was a data feed issue and people who were live in person were making bets as it happened. All other questions I answered with no problem. After this case I had to immediately meet with the director and I could tell he really liked me. We actually ran out of time in our discussion. 30 minutes to interview versus wasted time on these case studies is frustrating. I knew after that last round I needed my personality and resume to speak over the one or two mess ups in a case study. Especially the case study from a person who I won't be reporting to as a manager or director. It didn't. The feedback I got was everyone really liked me, except that one person. So I can't get the job. You would think if there were no other issues they would either take a shot on me or ask to meet again, not throw all that work down the drain. It's insane. I knew immediately I'd be writing about this. TLDR I hope this helps someone study since that's all they seem to care about.

      Domande di colloquio [1]

      Domanda 1

first case - on the phone. expected value of buying baseball tickets from scalper with chance of being counterfeit vs flash sale from team website. if counterfeit must buy full price ticket. added complexities of more options, price changes, getting entered into a raffle when you go into stadium. second case - on zoom video. zoom annotate graphing visualizations with your mouse. questions on train complaints (think MTA in NYC), hypothesize where the issue is, and graph how you would see issue. entry gates/exit gates/train delays/ticket machine third case - on zoom video. sportsbook betting and casino betting. all people sports bet and half the people who sportsbet also do casino, no people do just casino bets. given margin levels/customer counts/acquisition costs/etc. calculating contest sizing, breakeven points, margin $, profit $, lifetime values.

Started with initial HR screen who had reached out to me, then went forward to a case study round with a manager of analytics, was not selected to continue after that.

train case study, they help walk you through it. But didn't do good enough job since interview process ended there. Good post interview feedback though from the interview to give insight on what to work on.

4 rounds of interviews. Multiple behavioral interviews and cases. All done online. Overall I thought this process was a bit of a waste of time, I think after two behavior interviews 1-2 cases you should know if you want to hire someone, not 4 behavior and 3 cases. It's gotta be expensive for them to recruit so they must have a ton of applicants. Having multiple cases on expected value is a bit much in my opinion. DK pays under industry standard and the interview process is lengthy. Whole process took roughly 5 weeks, with a week in between each interview.

      Domanda 1

1st Round - Phone screening with recruiter. Basic questions - walk me through your resume, why DK, what do you know about DK, why are you leaving current role 2nd Round - 45 minute case study on expected value with analyst that builds on itself. Comparing the price of grocery stores and the expected value of each haul based on if a coupon will work, then knowing the coupon works if you spent money on gas to drive to the other store is it worth it, then if there is a raffle in one of the items how does that change expected value 3rd Round (Camera on) - 30 minute with hiring manager, STAR questions, how do you prioritize, how do you teamwork, do you present to stakeholders, etc followed by a one hour case on a train system, identifying areas of congestion for riders, and providing solutions. You have to draw graphs here and what kind of data you would use to solve/prove the issues. Basic charts are fine. Summarize the problem the solution in a wrap up statement 4th round - (camera on) 45 minute interview with director of analytics, more STAR questions, handle conflict, what you hope your career will look like etc. followed by 1 hour case study with analyst discussing a new feature DK wants to launch and how you would measure its success between the control and test group. Summarize issue and potential solutions. Feedback was I did really well on everything but the very last part of the last case study in terms of correctly comparing the test and control group. They sneak in some expected value questions in there too but the wording is a bit confusing. Saying things like "if x,y,z is being taken into account for the solution, what would the new LTV be?" when they could say what is the expected value of the LTV given x,y,z. It sounds dumb but when you are under pressure to comprehend the problem on camera its a bit intense. You do get prompted and some hints if you're struggling. I did arrive at the correct answer for the last case so was thinking I would get an offer after all of those interviews but they said they went with another candidate. I was told I had strong feedback everywhere expect the last part of the last case so a bit surprised they didn't want to move forward but oh well! Advice - don't spend a month interviewing at a company that pays less than industry standard and has more than 3 rounds of interviews unless it is your absolute dream job.
