My first interview was with a recruiter. I just did the phone screen but overall was fairly standard and they were friendly. I’m not sure what the following stages would entail.

The interview process was overall positive and moved along quickly. However I learned that the CS department at Ethena is very sales heavy - all you’re tracked on is expansion and renewals. Felt more like an AE role with a dash of CS in there. HM described team dynamic as “competitive” if that’s your vibe… Panel interview was hard hitting on relating your experience to their values.

Tell me about a time you took yourself too seriously. One month into the quarter and you have nothing in your expansion pipeline, what would you do?
I WITHDREW my application after I had such a negative interview with the hiring manager.
1. RUDE HIRING MANAGER:
- Hiring manager was extremely cold, curt, and uninterested. They gave me one word responses ("wow") or no response at all after I answered their questions.
- Hiring manager interrupted me as I was answering their questions.
- As I was saying goodbye, the hiring manager hung up on me and ended the call in the middle of me speaking.
2. POORLY PLANNED:
- They only scheduled 30 minutes for what should have been a 45 - 60 minute call. As such, there was no time for me to offer an intro about myself (when I tried I was interrupted) or to ask my share of questions about the role - and no offer for follow up via email to help clarify. As such, I left the interview feeling like I had learned very little about the role and had more questions than when I started the interview.
- The job description is NOT what this job is. They're looking for a Sales Executive, not a CSM. This is a commission based role with no KPIs other than $ expansion (not retention, CSATs, etc.).
- The company wanted 5 rounds in total! Including an hour long take home assessment. I’m all for making sure it’s a good fit but this is ridiculous - especially for such a low salary.
3. BAD INTERVIEWER
- Hiring manager was not clear in their question asking and was not a clear communicator — I had to ask them to clarify what they were asking several times as they were very vague and unclear.
- Hiring manager was not able to answer the only question I was allotted time to ask: can you give me an example of a time you've advocated for your team? I had to repeat my question. Doesn't seem like they are familiar with advocating for their team at all.
