      I recently underwent the interview process at FTI Consulting for a position in one of their departments. The process comprised two stages. The initial phase was a 45-minute HR phone screening. This initial interaction was highly professional and informative, offering a comprehensive overview of the role and the firm's culture. The HR representative's approach was exemplary, creating a positive and engaging experience. The second phase of the interview, however, presented a stark contrast. The interview was conducted via Zoom with two mid-level departmental members. This round was markedly less professional. The casual attire of the interviewers (one in pajamas, the other appearing somewhat disheveled) detracted significantly from the professional nature of the discussion. The interview focused intensely on my technical abilities and relevant experience, with a particular emphasis on how my background aligns with the firm's needs. While such scrutiny is standard and expected in interviews, the approach here was confrontational rather than exploratory. The interaction became more disconcerting when my questions were answered dismissively, and they were evasive about the next steps in the process. This one-hour interview not only felt unproductive but also left me with a negative impression of the firm. Overall thoughts: The lack of professionalism in the second interview was concerning (but indicative), and appeared to contradict the initial positive impression created by the HR screening. It raises concerns about the consistency of professional standards within the company. It's important for potential candidates to be aware of this potential variance in the interview experience at FTI Consulting.
