Initial phone screen with one person, and a follow-up with another. My phone screen went well. However, in my follow-up (actual interview) the individual could not have been more uninterested in interviewing me. He was asking questions and then immediately looking away/seemingly looking at something else or working on something else on another monitor as I gave my answers. He did not make eye contact more than maybe three times in the 30 minutes that we were on the Zoom. He didn’t ask meaningful questions at all (so how I could have even got to the next stage is beyond me) and it seemed like there was absolutely no way I would be landing this job, as I didn’t even seem to be considered from the start (?) so I’m not really sure what the point of interviewing me was. I also found it odd that he abruptly ended the interview right at time without asking me if I had any further last-minute questions and he let me know that the hiring manager would be in touch with next steps. I have never had someone tell me that they would be reaching out with the next steps if I wasn’t making it to the next step. I was very disappointed with my experience overall because I do really like the company, have very applicable/competitive experience, and my phone screen had gone so positively it was a stark contrast to be met with such an uninterested individual for an interview that I put time and energy into. I now have a poor taste in my mouth about the company because of the lack of respect I feel I was given and that’s disappointing. Next stages would have been a paid design challenge followed by an interview with the entire design team.

The process felt discouraging and they filled the position in the time it took to get set up. It is fine that sometimes these things happen, but keeping a cadence from the moment they contact you to start everything would have been nice to feel less in the dark.
