I met Gartner on my college campus and they were really excited to talk to me. After an initial 20 minute conversation, we found that I was a good fit for the Software Rotational Program and Data Science Role. I then moved onto a phone screen with another recruiter for both roles, who also thought that I was a great fit. Within two days, he wanted to set up an onsite interview. Unfortunately, it was difficult for me to arrange transportation to Stamford, CT so the Directors of each program were kind enough to set up three back-to-back video interviews the next week. I was told that these interviews were specifically for Data Science Rotational Program, which does not exist but I assumed the interviews were for the Data Science role. Here's where Gartner completely lost me. The first interview was held by the Director of the Software Rotational Program. I was confused, at first, but then made the connection that the recruiter who set up my interviews meant to say Data Science/Software Rotational Program. I went along with this first interview, unprepared but held my ground and was able to speak to my coding experiences. The second interview was conducted by a different person than who the scheduling recruiter expected. There were many repeated questions, but again, I held my ground. The third interviewer never joined the video call. Thus, I pieced together that I was being interviewed for the Software Rotational Program and not Data Science, at all. I immediately emailed the recruiter who had conducted the initial phone screen and he was very confused. After several weeks of emailing him, asking for interviews with Data Science and a response from the Software Rotational Program team, he just repeated that no one had gotten back to him. I emailed my interviewers, as well, but did not receive any response. For a company that had been very excited, efficient and fast-paced with the recruiting process, they had absolutely no system in place for feedback or apologies. Bottom line: Review all communications beforehand so you don't fall into my situation and pay the price for huge mistakes that Gartner made and will never attempt to fix or apologize for.
