I was very disappointed and very offended.
I applied online for customer service position and they replied me back to arrange an interview.
The interview was casual and relaxing so it was ok. But the behaviour and words the recruiter selected got on my nerves.
At the end of the interview, I was asked if I had any questions. So I asked some questions about the position and the company. And lastly, I asked them for feedback on my interview and if there was anything I could improve.
I was surprised.
They said 'You asked me a question for one of my interview questions before you answered. I felt this made our communication less smooth and that means you didn't understand the meaning of the question. I'm sure people who have business experience more than you could understand the meaning of the question 100%. This is about business common sense.'
I was like,' what the....'
First, in terms of asking a question, nothing wrong with it. It is important and so fundamental for a good communication, besides, it was written as a tip/recommendation for candidates to do on the Hubspot website.
Secondly, I asked them a question because the question was so vague.
They asked me, 'In terms of feed back at company, what was the hardest one?'
Instantly, I thought this is feedback I received from my previous company. But we talked about feedback I sent to the company right before this question and the sentence was not clear anyway, so I had two options in my head. I asked them whether they meant feedback I received or sent. They said latter. So I could make sure that I was on the same page.
Then, they pointed out the communication was not smooth due to this. I'm done really.
I felt they were defensive and they wanted to be superior to me by saying such thing. So that they could behave like 'Oh it was not our fault. You didn't have business common sense and experience or whatever'
They should have been open to change and improve their question And most importantly improve their humanity.
Thirdly, how could you be so judgemental? Though they said they didn't mean to be critical, they pointed out that I don't have full-time experience and this is why I didn't understand question I was asked and internship is not proper job so I must not have business common sense. And they added, 'your job at previous company as full-time, it must have been very simple but it is not simple at Hubspot such as customer requests, complaints etc.'
They literally said these when I asked them for 'feedback'. WHO could say something happened in the past and something I cannot change when I asked 'feedback'? HOW dare you say that my previous job was simple (you all know the company and have definitely used before. And that was not simple. It was very confusing and complicated. This is what everyone said even my coworker who had so many experiences). WHAT is the the business common sense. This is not related to the level of understanding. Your question was just not clear to anybody, your behaviour was disrespectful and you must not have human common sense or human touch.
The recruiter should not have been hired and they didn't have HEART at all.
I hope other candidates will not have same experience as mine.
