I applied online and several days later got an email about setting up a phone interview. Phone interview with the hiring manager was brief and went over my experience and particulars of the job. A few days later I sent a follow-up email and received a test to complete. I did that and was invited for an in-person interview with a panel of editor, hiring manager and a HR rep. Took about 1.5 hours. Everyone was nice and I thought the interview went well. Several days later the HR rep sent an email saying they decided to go into a “different direction” and included links to interview tips along with the rejection. I thought was odd, and definitely the first time I’ve ever had HR send that. I get the intent was positive, but at the same time, I think most job seekers can find these links with a cursory Google search. Would’ve been nice to get more direct feedback.
