I applied online to Data Scientist ML Frameworks and Infra position. I got an email invitation to do an online coding assessment. It was two medium leet code questions from the glider platform. I successfully completed both questions and submitted. A day after I received an email saying I passed the test and asked for HR phone screening in two days. In the HR call, they asked why I join Shopee, and my expected salary etc. Two days after, I got an email from HR asking for me to go for round 1 tech interview, and told me about rest of the tech interview process. Initial plan: Round 1 tech: Coding assessment with tech lead (90 minutes) Round 2 tech: ML domain expertise interview with manager (60 minutes) Round 3 tech: Final interview with Head of Data Science (30 minutes) Round 1 interview they gave me 2 easy leet code questions, which I completed successfully and asked about my project experience. A day later HR contacted me and said I passed the interview and scheduled for round 2 interview saying it would be a 90 minute interview with a coding assessment. (they changed what they said earlier, which is 60 minute interview) Round 2 interview day, their team manager gave me a coding assessment, which I completed successfully. Then he asked about ML project experience and asked an open ended question about monitoring ML models in production. When I answered he kept saying that's one way of doing such monitoring and he asked for more answers. Every time I answer he kept saying that's also correct and ask for other ways. 90 minutes went that way and he didn't even say what answer he was expecting. HR responded me saying their team need to discuss before proceeding to final interview, and two days later when I sent them a follow up email, they said that I did not get selected from the interview, and did not even provide a reason for that. Round 2 interview, the team manager had no idea what he wanted to evaluate, he blindly shoot questions, and did not have a clear idea of what to expect. It was a negative experience for me.
