Unconventional which seemed Ok at first. The place had a real cult of personality vibe to it. Everyone was nice, but I really did get the sense of a "we are holier than thou feeling".

I applied to Shopify a few months ago for another role and didn't make the cut, unfortunately. I thought I'd try again as Shopify has been on the top of my list for companies I'd like to work for -- it seems that they really value you as a person, want you to grow, etc.
This time around my experience was horrible. I applied for the recruiter position and heard back about a week after the job posting expired. I was really excited as the talent specialist seemed excited about my application. I was asked to setup a time with the recruiter through Calendly. I booked in a call for the next morning. As soon as the recruiter called me, I knew the call was not going to go anywhere. Firstly, she seemed confused and asked me if I knew she was calling..... I said yes, I booked it in, so of course! The entire conversation she seemed really bored and disinterested. She was super hung up on the reason I left my last job, and that completely derailed the conversation. She actually said to me "you left without finding another job?". I felt judged and deeply disrespected. I explained my reasons, and tried to stay positive and show my interest for this role. I asked a ton of questions at the end and she sped through all of the answers.
About a week later, I received an email that I was not moving forward and that absolutely no feedback could be given.
I find it odd that a company that says they value candidates have a recruiter like this who is rude to people.... it contradicts what Shopify says they stand for, and judging from all of the other negative interview reviews here, there are quite a few bad apples. I think they maybe need to hire recruiters who are actually in HR and understand labour relations regulations in Ontario.

The process was unnecessarily long, lacked direction and at times irrelevant. The technical test was essentially a 3 question test on excel functions.
The life story was one of the strangest interviews I have been involved in. The recruiter came off as arrogant and disinterested. At times I felt like they were just gathering information on my previous employers. Judging by some of the comments on their company culture, I'm glad I dodged a bullet.
Zero feedback received too which says it all about their culture.

The recruitment process I went through was quite interesting and involved several stages. First, I completed an online test that evaluated my behavioral and logical skills. After that, I had an online meeting with the recruiter. This was followed by another online session specifically designed to test my data skills. Then, there was a life story interview, and the last stage was a reverse life story interview. I received feedback within about 1.5 weeks.
