Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto 3 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Workday (San Francisco, CA) nel mese di ago 2016
Colloquio
#Contacted in June by Workday sourcer on LinkedIn.
#"Coffee" screen interview by a hiring manager
#Another phone screen by another hiring manager
#First onsite - 5 rounds. Senior Mgr, Asso. Mgr, Sr SWE, DevOps Eng, SWE Director.
#Second onsite - 4 rounds. PM, Hiring Manager from screen 1, DevOps Direct, Principal Eng.
- Most questions are around team management, project/resource/roadmap management, how to deal with low performer, career goal, dealing with conflict, what are you most proud of, etc. Interviewer from different functions are also interested in the interaction with their teams. If you are SWE manager for a couple of years you should have good examples for those questions already.
- One thing you might want to keep in mind is that Workday is growing really fast (>6000 emp now) but not well known outside of HR circle. One very important trait for SWE Manager is to advocate the team and promote their work. I did a lot of internal presentation as well as speakers in trade conferences, so it is not a problem for me.
- Technical questions are around what you have done (without revealing trade secret - I work for a competitor!), SaaS operation/Architecture, a couple of coding/algo/optimization questions (Signed NDA - However if you are a manager still coding, they should be no problem. No Leetcode grinding required!).
At this point (End of Aug) recruiter updated that feedback was stellar and they would like to bring me onsite one final time with SVP for his final approval. Recruiter and Hiring Manager are very transparent and provides frequent updates - Kudo to them. However, it has been postponed for more than 6 weeks and finally got a word that the team is no longer hiring a manager this year.
In all, despite the hiring priority change in the end, interview process is professional and every interviewer are friendly and prepared.

Colloquio
4 rounds, 1 coding, 1 code review, 1 technical (mainly design patterns) and 1 hiring manager. Then some general ones with HR, etc. The overall process was ok, but the questions felt random.

Domanda 1
Lots of design pattern questions. Abstract vs non abstract factory.

I applied on the website and the hiring manager got in touch by e-mail to arrange a telephone screening interview. Interview with hiring manager was a chat about my experience and how I considered myself suitable for the role.
