The recruiter was great; the director of engineering was not. He called me 10 minutes late for our 30 minute phone interview, then immediately launched into a 10 minute monologue without pause about himself and how important his team is. When he finally finished, his few questions for me were generic and impersonal, with little followup or engagement with my answers ("Tell me what you're looking for in your next role.") He was bored from the beginning. When he asked if I had any questions for him, he became annoyed when I did ask a few basic softball questions about the team size and structure rather than letting him get off the phone. My overall impression is that this man thinks very highly of himself, beneath an appropriately polished humblebrag veneer of humility and "go team." He views his reports in a purely instrumental way, as tools to accomplish his own goals, while of course paying the requisite bay area lip service to standard liberal "caring and kindness" shibboleths. He has sociopathically learned to mimick the wording of these tropes with a high degree of accuracy. He is looking for bland, docile yes-men with no personality of their own.
