Vantaggi
All-in-all, booj produces a decent product. Sure, the software is extremely buggy and will frustrate any developer, but clients tent to get what they need. Also, there are nice benefits, for those in the in-club, like flexible work hours.
Svantaggi
Booj is a classic example of entrepreneurs building a successful business on the backs of young, inexperienced and under-paid employees. The situation can be best understood by this fact: In the three months I worked there, of the 68 employees, 6 were fired and 3 quit. That's 13% of the company's work-force gone in three months! The problem is that booj has no leadership. Technically, it is "lead" by two owners who are very involved in the day-to-day, but never provide corporate direction or vision to any of the employees. For example, in my three months there I never heard the owners talk at company meetings nor send communication to the staff. Six of the 68 employees were fired, but still no communication from the owners. Despite this, the owners have not appointed any other official leadership that employees can realistically look to. When I started, I asked three people if they were technically my boss, and all said no. I technically reported to no one! But, when it came time for them to need work from me, they suddenly became my quasi boss. As it turns out, I had more than 8 people demanding work from me. And this wasn't simply colleagues I worked with, these were people that, if I didn't perform the work they requested when they wanted it, would complain to ownership. Imagine having 8 people to simultaneously please. Of course, no one can please 8 bosses for long, and this is why booj fires employees, without warning, constantly. The person that released me from the company :), actually asked me to lead a multi-month project less than 4 days before. One week you are receiving praise from your "boss", the next they are firing you. The only way to make it at booj is to kiss-up to ownership and the quasi leadership. This is why, for example, the "lead developer" in my department was the second-least experienced developer. Understand this before you consider a job at booj.
