No room for advancement- most people are hired as field technicians/geologists and that is all you can do. Salary is not very competitive within the area and industry at large. There is the ability to go to school or get certifications but the people that have done that tell me how hard it is to get things approved. Been told by various clients that our training is poor or out of date and I often lost out on other jobs from companies who have told me they would have to spend too much to train me to their standards.
